Indistinctly signed lower left, probably ”Johannes Mann” and place-name (?). In a broad gold-finished frame. For the original, compare State Art Collections Dresden, Galerie Neue Meister, Gal.-Nr. 2338. Osmar Schindler's ”Im Kumtlampenschein” was long considered the artist's most famous and successful work. The painting has been in the Galerie Neue Meister of the State Art Collections Dresden since 1901. Due to its great success, Schindler himself created numerous adaptations of his work until the 1920s. Support in the upper area with three reinforced and retouched tears. Paint layer with isolated early shrinkage craquelure, isolated color-incorrect retouches and minimal, punctual paint layer losses. Rabbet area rubbed. Frame's finish bumped and rubbed, mitres open. Dimensions: 88 x 150 cm, frame 107 x 170 cm. May – July 1890 study trip to Belgium, 1895 first trip to Italy to Florence, Rome, Naples and Capri. 1900–24 teacher at the Dresden Art Academy. April 1902 trip to Lake Garda, Lake Como, Verona, Venice and Vienna. 1903 appointed professor. Head of the modeling class and a painting studio, in this year study trip to the North Sea. Member of the German Artists' Association. 1905 trip to Southern Italy, including Pompeii, Salerno, Amalfi, Capri, Naples, Rome and Florence. July – August 1907 trip to Bolzano, Trento, Pisa and Malcesine, 1911 another stay at Lake Garda. Schindler created numerous wall, window and ceiling paintings in Saxon churches, e.g. in Dresden's Annenkirche.
