Support slightly warped. Isolated impastos broken off, inconspicuous in overall impression. Varnish glossy. Frame probably over-painted. Dimensions: 71 x 52.5 cm, frame 82 x 63 cm. Alexander von Szpinger 1889 Weimar – 1969 ibid. Studied at the Weimar School of Arts and Crafts under Henry van de Velde. Freelance artist after World War I. Followed early Christian Rohlfs. Later closely associated with other Thuringian artists such as Walter Determann and Alfred Ahner. Co-founder of the Weimar Secession in 1932. From 1948, professor in Weimar. Extensive travels to Italy, Carinthia, and the Baltic Sea.
