Life and Work with the Catalogue of Graphic Works. Dresden 1997. Fig. p. 50, Cat.No. 37. The work has not been unframed. Paint layer in the middle with inconspicuous, very fine scratch marks. Tiny paint layer flaws at the upper right edge and another one at the lower left edge. Frame with minor lesions. Dimensions: 45 x 30 cm, frame 56.5 x 42 cm. Hans Unger 1872 Bautzen – 1936 Dresden 1887–92 apprenticeship as a decorative painter in Bautzen. 1888–93 student in the painting hall of the Royal Dresden Court Theatre. 1892–96 studied at the Dresden Art Academy under Friedrich Preller d.J. and Heinrich Prell. In 1897, his first painting ”Die Muse” was acquired by the Gemäldegalerie Neue Meister. 1897/98 studied at the Académie Julian in Paris under Tony Robert-Fleury and Jules-Joseph Lefebvre. In 1899, Unger had his own room at the German Art Exhibition in Dresden. Member of the ”Deutscher Künstlerbund” founded in 1903, the ”Goppelner Malerschule” and the ”Dresdner Sezession”. Appointed professor after 1906. In 1912, he had his own room in the newly opened Bautzen City Museum. 1917 participated in the exhibition of the Dresden Artists' Association. In 1933, the Saxon Art Association organized a last major exhibition on the occasion of his 60th birthday.
