Wilhelm”. On the stretcher with numerous handwritten inscriptions and again signed ”P. Wilhelm 24. [crossed out] Blumenstrauß 24.” / ”P. Wilhelm-Kötzschenbroda-Gradsteg 46”. Left ”Paul Wilhelm Nieder[...]”. Below ”Strauß mit Sonnenblumen 1927” and the stamp of the Dresden artist supply shop ”Rudolf Kneifel”. In addition, numerical annotations, probably by another hand, and adhesive labels. Framed in a gold and silver-colored, profiled molding. Cat.No. 3. Tiny, isolated paint layer flaws on the image surface, among others, in a blue blossom upper left. Frame somewhat rubbed, corners with losses of the coating, with slightly opened miter joints. Dimensions: 55.5 x 70.5 cm, frame 65 x 80 cm. Paul Wilhelm 1886 Greiz – 1965 Radebeul 1904 attended the Royal School of Applied Arts Dresden under Paul Hermann Naumann. 1905–12 studied at the Dresden Academy of Applied Arts under Richard Müller, Oskar Zwintscher, and Gotthardt Kuehl. From 1912 member of the Dresden Artists' Association. 1919 married the wealthy American Marion Eleonore, née Lane, whose image has since been found in many of his works. 1922–24 numerous trips abroad, especially to Italy and France. Several trips to England between 1931–35. From 1935, the painter, along with Griebel, Hegenbarth, Jüchser, Rosenhauer, among others, belonged to the circle of the ”Seven Walkers” who met for intellectual exchange during hikes. 1946 appointed professor. 1948 solo exhibition at the State Art Collections Dresden. 1987 large exhibition at the State Art Collections Dresden.
