Ernst Bursche - Ernst Bursche, Summer River Landscape. 1955.. Ernst Bursche 1907 Carlsberg/Oberlausitz – 1989 Düsseldorf Oil on canvas. Signed and dated ”E Bursche 55” lower right. Verso on the stretcher with a label from Galerie Kühl, Hanover. Framed in a partially silvered profile strip. Canvas slightly wavy, with two dents on the right next to the tree and upper left under the clouds. Paint layer with light craquelure and slight clumping in the impasto areas. Frame slightly bumped. Dimensions: 59 x 68.2 cm, frame 71 x 80 cm. Ernst Bursche 1907 Carlsberg/Oberlausitz – 1989 Düsseldorf Apprenticeship as a lithographer in Bautzen. Studied 1927/28 at the Kunstgewerbeschule Dresden, including with Arno Drescher. From 1929, studied at the Kunstakademie Dresden with Richard Müller and Otto Dix. Bursche was closely befriended with Dix until Dix''s death. From 1938, member of the Dresden section of the ASSO. 1932 ”Dresdner Sezession ''32” member. Loss of the studio and large parts of his work during the air raid on Dresden in 1945. Afterwards, he took over Dix''s studio, looked after the works located there, and was his administrator from 1947. 1962 moved to Düsseldorf. Since 1967, summer stays in Forio d''Ischia.
