Signed and dated lower right ”Hippold 60”. Verso signed again. In a white-framed panel frame, probably inscribed ”Hippold” by the artist on the verso. Lower left corner of the support minimally bumped. Paint layer with scratches lower right, probably inherent to the work. Frame with signs of wear, a tear upper left. Dimensions: 66.5 x 46.5 cm, frame 85.5 x 65 cm. Erhard Hippold 1909 Wilkau – 1972 Bad Gottleuba Apprenticeship as a porcelain painter. 1928–31 student at the Dresden School of Arts and Crafts with Carl Rade, until 1933 studied at the Dresden Art Academy with Ferdinand Dorsch, master student with Max Feldbauer. In this year he had to leave the academy for political reasons. Married to Dix's student Gussy Ahnert. With her, he lived as a freelance artist in Radebeul from 1945. From 1934, friendship with the painter Carl Lohse, with whom he spent several study trips to the Baltic Sea. From 1950, more intensive engagement with graphic arts, especially etchings and lithographs.
