Verso with paper label of the art supply store Heinrich Klein, Dresden, Amalienstraße 18. Mounted in a passe-partout and framed behind glass. Provenance: Estate Collection Frank Löser (1935–2006), Estate Collection Erhard Löser (1905–2001); acquired in the artist's studio or from the artist's widow Gerda Kesting. A pastose, impressive work by Edmund Kesting, in which vegetative formations group around a captivating opening with a red circle (sun). Cf. also: Gisela Schulz: Edmund Kesting. Leipzig 1980. Cat. No. 17f and 38. Erhard Löser was personally acquainted with Edmund Kesting; both owned a holiday home on the Hohes Ufer in Ahrenshoop (today Edmund-Kesting-Weg). Both Erhard Löser and Frank Löser built up an Edmund Kesting collection, acquiring many works directly from Kesting and, after his death, from his widow. Support warped. Corners slightly bumped. Brownish stains from moisture ingress upper right. Further, inconspicuous stains lower middle. Small, unnoticeable paint layer defects on the left edge as well as upper left and upper middle. Re-lining on the reverse with material loss due to mounting. Dimensions: 26.2 x 36.5 cm, Frame: 41.2 x 51.2 cm. Connections to Kurt Schwitters, since 1926 to El Lissitzky, exhibitions in Moscow and New York. 1932 Co-founder of the ”Dresdner Sezession 1932”. 1934 Exhibition and painting ban, closure of both Wegschulen. 1948 Co-founder of the group ”der Ruf”. 1956 Teaching position at the Film Academy in Potsdam-Babelsberg.
