Verso, an ”X” painted in acrylic over the diagonals. Framed in a blue wooden moulding by the artist; the frame is inseparably connected to the work. In Stefan Plenkers' work, the mirror functions as a central instrument for examining pictorial space. In the abstraction of body forms, which are condensed into flat structures, he makes space tangible as a constructed entity. By incorporating mirrors, the pictorial space is extended to include the real space of the viewer, thus removing its self-contained nature. This questions any clear separation between inside and outside; pictorial space and reality seem to overlap. This principle continues within the object itself, as the frame and support are directly connected. The classic boundary between image and framing dissolves, and the relationship between body, space, and image appears as an open, dynamic structure. The work has not been unframed. Paint layer with isolated light scratches and dirt, as well as a larger paint chip in the center. Slight dirt behind the mirror glass. Frame minimally bumped, paint layer there slightly cracked. From 1969 oil painting. 1973–74 self-employed in Bad Muskau, then Cottbus. 1975–77 master student of Gerhard Kettner. Several study trips to Europe, Asia, America, and the Orient.
