Thea Schleusner 1879 Wittenberg – 1964 Berlin Painter, illustrator and travel writer. Private artistic instruction as a master student with Professors Curt Stoeving, Franz Skarbina and Reinhold Lepsius in Berlin, later at the Académie Colarossi in Paris. Study trips to Rome, Florence and Siena to study the Old Masters. 1906–31 member of the Verein Berliner Künstlerinnen (Association of Berlin Women Artists). Portraitist of famous personalities, e.g. Albert Einstein, Mary Wigman, Emil Nolde and Friedrich Nietzsche. Acquaintances include Auguste Rodin and Rainer Maria Rilke. Also a glass painter and book illustrator, among others for Oscar Wilde's fairy tales. From the 1920s, her own literary work, inspired by travels to Sweden, Sri Lanka and Italy. Schleusner lost most of her works in World War II. Today she is considered an artist of the ”Lost Generation”. 2024 retrospective in her hometown Wittenberg.
