Fidus - Collection of letters and accompanying items - Fidus (actually Hugo Reinhold KJ Höppener; Lübeck 1868 - 1948 Woltersdorf). Collection of 11 handwritten letters and 3 handwritten postcards, each with a handwritten signature ('Fidus' or 'H. Höppner-Fidus') addressed to the collector Reinhold Völcker in Hamburg. Dated between 1914 and 1919. Mostly several pages. Letter size 28.5 x 22 cm; postcards 9 x 14 cm. The painter and illustrator Fidus lived in Woltersdorf near Berlin after his training and maintained contacts with the intellectual circles of the time. He was a proponent of the life reform movement and dedicated himself to the ideas of light worship and nudism. His house became a meeting place for the reform movement. His views on life and preferences are reflected in his oeuvre, which is influenced by Art Nouveau. - Fidus writes to the art collector about deliveries of paintings, installment payments, and offers regarding his paintings. He also writes: ...that I actually don't have the time to justify my prices and offers... for a mere print of Klinger's etchings, on which he did absolutely nothing individually, sometimes thousands are paid... But I would never engage in such usury... - Included: 1. 7 postcards with motifs by Fidus, 5 of which are handwritten with information about the respective original painting. 2. 1 handwritten postcard from 'Dr. Werner Sachße to Reinhold Völcker, postmarked 28.1.15. 3. Two handwritten lists of pictures and prints with their respective prices. 4. Three receipts and further documents relating to Fidus.
