Bidspirit auction | Kodak photo album, 170 photos
Kodak photo album, 170 photos - Photography.- Album with approximately 170 mounted original photographs (of which approximately 150 are in the round format of the Kodak I). Vintage silver gelatin prints, toned, 1888-98. Oblong quarto. Contemporary private half-leather album with drawn, embossed, and partly colored illustrations on the covers (somewhat rubbed, clasp missing). The Kodak I camera, like its successor the Kodak II, was only briefly available, as its round image format failed to gain traction against the more common rectangular format. Consequently, photographs, especially in larger numbers, are rare. The unknown private photographer of this album documents visits to Halberstadt and the surrounding area, the Berlin Trade Exhibition of 1896, Hamburg, the Friedrichsruh maneuvers of 1895, Sonnenberg in 1897, the Isle of Wight in 1897, and other locations, including many personal snapshots. Each photograph is carefully inscribed on the backing paper. The photographs range in size from 3 x 1.5 to 5.5 x 3 cm, with a diameter of approximately 6 cm. Some photographs are slightly faded or rubbed.
