First edition. - The Hamburg tenor, composer, and music writer Johann Mattheson (1681-1764) was a member of the Hamburg Opera Chorus in his youth, later secretary to the English ambassador, and music director at Hamburg Cathedral. He maintained a lifelong friendship with George Frideric Handel.
