Eitner VIII, 168; Kippenberg I, 718. – Contains, among other things, spring, summer, autumn, and winter songs, as well as settings of poems by Goethe, Herder, Schiller, Schlegel, Voss, and others, which likely reflect the fruits and atmosphere of the social gatherings at Reichard's country estate in Giebichenstein (near Halle) (cf. Riemann II, 480). The editor was not only a composer but also a music writer and critic. In 1794, he was dismissed as court Kapellmeister to Frederick the Great due to his revolutionary views and later worked at the Kassel court of Jérôme Napoleon. – Partly slightly (finger-)stained, the main title page and the second volume of the 'New Songs' mostly with damp stains at the bottom edge (extending into the music). – Book block broken.
