Stollwerck - Documents - Stollwerck.- Collection of approximately 60 documents concerning the Stollwerck family of entrepreneurs. Circa 1865-1920. Founded in Cologne in 1839, the Stollwerck company became famous for its chocolate production. By the turn of the century, numerous branches had been established both domestically and internationally; in New York alone, there were over 4,000 of their chocolate vending machines. Today, the company headquarters are in Norderstedt. The collection contains numerous, mostly typographic, documents (programs, poems, etc.) commemorating the weddings and silver wedding anniversaries of various family members. It also includes several typewritten letters, newspaper articles, and advertisements (as well as two portrait photographs) on the occasion of the death of the senior managing director, Heinrich Stollwerck (1843-1915), who died as a result of an accident following the explosion of a fondant kettle in the factory; finally, numerous handwritten and typewritten letters to Wilhelm Fuchs, great-nephew of Carl Stollwerck; mostly very affectionate letters from his aunt Marion-Theresa Stollwerck (later wife of the British politician Frederick Bellenger); and several love letters from his girlfriend.
