5 Ft Monumental Pair of Chinese Cloisonne Temple Lanterns
Monumental pair of Chinese cloisonne lanterns cast in patinated copper and enameled in the multi-colored cloisonne with scenes of scholarly objects, cloud formations, and floral scrolling. The lantern itself cast in three parts with the lower haft consisting of three legs all hollow and decorated all over with cloisonne enamel and lotus flowers, the top of which is bulbous and embossed with archaistic faces holding hardstone rings. Center section consisting of the lantern with 6 sides each of reverse painted glass panels with various bird & floral scenes, one of which opens to reveal the interior, numerous hanging circular hardstone rings around the base, and embossed decoration protruding each corner. Final top section mimicking a temple is hexagonal as well with intricately pierced panels of openwork embossed in dragon scenes, the roof of the temple with dragon head and hardstone rings hanging and a central handle enameled all over. Size of each 66 1/2" H
Condition: numerous losses, multiple cracked windows, loose pieces on shoulders, some missing rings and finials.
