Asante Gold 'Scorpion' Ring, (14-18k, 25grams)
West Africa, Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire, Akan Cultures, Asante or more probably Baule peoples 19th-20th century. Exceptional gold ring in Scorpion form with nice weight and well formed detailing two claws to the front with a small set of beady eyes. The body with a series of linear and banded decoration representing a layered exoskeleton and a bid bi-furcated scorpion tail turned up. This ring was acid tested as 14-18k. The surface appears to have plating as well although testing was consistent with this range. Size ring 3/4" W, scorpion 2" L
