French Gilt & Blued Small Sword, 18th c. - European likely French gilt brass small sword circa mid to late 18th century. Handle in gilt brass with two shell at the guard and a double finger loop to the base of the handle. D shaped guard over grip fitted to pommel. Handle cast with scrolling and period motifs. Peened over pommel. Red leather to the base of the guard with a triangular cross-section blade heavily blued, ricasso to one side with inscriptions in French the length of the blade. Size 36” L, blade 29 1/2” L Ex-Southern California Collection Condition: typical loss and wear commensurate with and use.
