Headhunters Axe w/ Brass Trim, Ifugao Bontoc Peoples - Philippines Archipelagos, Ifugao or Bontoc peoples Headhunters axe with brass openwork and iron construction, late 19th or earlier 20th century. Lower wood shaft covered in brass stippled and engraved openwork panels. Iron wrapped upper shaft. Typical form headhunter axe head with a deeply curved face and reverse with long spike for puncture of the dismounted skull. Size 24” L Southern California Private Collection Condition: Very good condition and preservation with strong patina to the brass and iron surfaces.
