English Civil War Dog Lock Pistol, 17th C. - Rare English Civil War Dog Lock flintlock pistol. 17th century. Barrel octagonal to round with a poof mark to the left side reading (EK). Exposed spring firing mechanism with a dark brown wood stock. Replaced ramrod. Size 23” L, Barrel 17 1/8” L Extensively used during the 17th century by the Royalist and Parliamentarian cavalry of the English Civil War. Many engagements of the war where cavalry played a key role in the battle. Cavalry wearing lobster tail helmets and cuirass or breastplates would use this form of pistol.
