Spanish Colonial Cup Hilt Sword, 18th c. - Iberian Peninsula, Spanish Colonial 18th century cup hilt sword / rapier. Popularized during maritime use by Spain a so-called ”Caribbean Cup Hilt” because some were partially made in the colonies. This example with a horn handle lightly turned with horizontal craving to the grip. Short length with a wide set of quillion and a typical round bowl with D shaped guard. Probably such an example where the blade was imported from Spain and assembled with a guard made in the colonies. Used throughout the Caribbean, Philippines, and Mexico.
