19th/20th C. Excellent Rare Bagobo Klong Wood Shield - Rare 19th/20th century Mindanao highlands, Philippine Bagobo peoples hand made wooden shield. Impressive shields main body is one solid piece of wood with an added ledge piece at the top. Four sections of wood affixed to the face and reverse with rattan at the mid-section. Stained in natural pigments from fruits compounded and ground into a paint, red and black pigments in this case. Decorated to the exterior with animal hair tassels. Central raised circular section making space for the handle on verso which is worn and patinated from use. Size 37 1/2” H x 14” W Condition: Good overall condition with loss to hair, minor surface scratches and wear. Tape residue to reverse upper right corner.
