Greek Apulian Red-Figure Plate, Winged Eros - Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, Apulian, ca. 340 to 320 BCE. Wonderful Greek Apulian footed plate depicting a young red painted winged Eros, he stands with his left foot resting on a pillar. Eros is nude and adorned with bracelets, pearl sash, and gold bands up one leg. Decorated throughout with wonderful detail including a wave motif along the rim. Black paint has become iridescent over time. Size 8 3/8” W, weight 385 g Private Southern, California collection, ex-Artemis Gallery, ex-Carlton collection, Los Angeles, California, USA acquired between 1965 and 1980 Condition: Some surface wear with minor paint losses on the face and areas of craquelure. Overall very good.
