Large Ottoman Balkan Dagger, Mid 19th C. - A remarkable and unusual large mid 19th century Ottoman Balkan dagger with superb gilded mounts and incredible pierced trellised grip. 17 and 1/8th inch needle point piercing blade with two narrow fullers and three “eyelash” decorative possibly maker’s marks one on one side and two on the other. The dark horn grip entirely encased in incredibly elaborate gilded brass with relief cast and chased designs comprising vegetal motifs and classic heads. The quality must be seen in the hand to truly appreciate. The dagger complete with its original ensuite scabbard decorated with relief gilt butterflies and bees. Scabbard with music original gilding and worn but original velvet covering. Slight dents to extreme end of chape otherwise good to fine overall. An impressive 24 inches long overall in scabbard.
