Ghanaian Asante / Akan Double-Tiered Wood Stool - West Africa, Ghana, Asante or Akan peoples, 20th century. A carved wood double-tiered stool with a broad, gently curved seat raised above two rectangular platforms, the structure supported by multiple cylindrical and block-form columns. The central panels are carved with elephant-form supports, framed by bands of geometric chip-carved ornament. Cloth bindings in blue, purple, and pale tan are tied around several upper supports. The stool shows a warm brown patina with surface wear, age cracks, and areas of loss. Size: 34 1/4” L x 15 1/2” W x 19 1/4” H. Family collection of an esteemed diplomat and ambassador amassed during travel and work circa 1960-1990s in the medical field providing charitable advanced medical care throughout the African continent and internationally. Condition: Age cracks, surface wear, insect damage and losses, especially to the underside and lower platform.
