Papua New Guinea Bone and Shell Necklace - Papua New Guinea necklace or chest ornament composed of braided fiber cord, cowrie shells, and bone elements. The central woven body is bound with dark fiber wrappings and set with three cowrie shells to the front, with multiple horizontal bone elements extending from the sides. The lower section is suspended with a vertebra-form bone element and two large curved elements, creating a dramatic ceremonial presentation. Mounted for presentation against a velvet backing. Pendant height 9 in. Necklace width 26 in. Condition: Wear, patina, soiling, and minor losses throughout. Some age cracks, surface flaking, fiber fraying, and old repairs or adhesive residue visible.
