West African Copper-Alloy Zoomorphic Animal Mask or Crest - West African Copper-Alloy Zoomorphic Mask / Crest, probably 19th century or earlier. West Africa, possibly Mali, Burkina Faso, or Nigeria, 20th century. A copper-alloy zoomorphic mask or crest of elongated animal form, possibly representing a bush cow, buffalo, or hippopotamus. The head is worked with a long tapering snout, open mouth, narrow slit eyes, applied ears, and four horn-like projections along the crown. The surface is covered with fine perforations and mottled grey-green oxidation, with areas of loss and exposure to the underlying reddish metal. Mounted on a black display stand. Lacy Gallery was founded upon six decades of collecting ethnographic and fine art. Lee Lacy was a distinguished Hollywood producer of iconic TV series and commercials. Condition: Well preserved condition with minor losses to face, aged patina throughout. Oxidation, perforations, surface losses, cracks, and wear throughout; mounted on stand.
