Antique Mexican Spanish Colonial Forged Iron Ring Bit (Freno de Argolla) with Chain Lip Straps - An antique Mexican / Spanish Colonial horse bit of traditional ring bit form known as a freno de argolla, meaning bit with ring, 19th to 20th century. Hand forged from heavy iron, the piece has two shaped cheek plates, a central mouthpiece bar, a large suspended iron ring below, and attached chain lip straps. The large ring was designed to encircle the horse?s lower jaw, giving the rider strong control, while the chain straps and additional attachment points worked with the reins and curb action. Measurements: 19” overall Materials: Hand forged iron Condition: Heavy rust, oxidation, and surface wear throughout. Chain straps remain attached with wear and age related losses as shown.
