Chinese Gilt Wood Figural Carvings: Qing Dynastic Style
Two gilt over red lacquered wood carvings on plinths. The first depicts an Imperial-looking General or Guardian seated astride a horse, both rider and mount feature heavily adorned cloth, armor, and tack. The headdress of the rider is one of great impact, power, and prestige. The mount stands foursquare, head turned to the right, the warrior s sword across the bridge of the nose. The second depicts a modestly attired bearded man astride a large broad-headed auspicious dog and holding a conch shell in his right hand. The mount stands foursquare, head faced forward and ears alert. The lack of saddle, tack, or reins for the mount shows the cooperative nature of rider and dog. Each figure is 4 inches high plus the height of a footed base for a total of 6.5 inches.
