The piece has been restored (please see photos for restoration notes). About the artist: Theodore J. Richardson (1855–1914) was an American painter and illustrator known for his depictions of the American West, particularly scenes involving Native American life, frontier landscapes, and early settlements. Based in Minnesota for much of his career, Richardson studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and spent time in Europe honing his skills. He later traveled extensively through the Dakota Territory and Alaska, documenting Indigenous cultures and rugged terrains through oil paintings and watercolors.
