Working in Texas and Missouri, he carved primarily in regional woods such as walnut, oak, and cedar, developing a distinctive style defined by exaggerated figures, satirical themes, and detailed hand-tooling. His work fits within the broader tradition of American folk and regional art, and his narrative approach to carving shows affinities with artists like H.C. Westermann, Elzy C. “E.C.” Ponder, and Fred Machetanz.
