Margo Hoff “Edge of the Forest?? Woodcut - Signed, titled & numbered on bottom Edition: 77/200 Frame: 22” x 13” Image: 18 1/2” x 9 1/2”   Condition: Signs of undulation to the image, with areas of paint loss and nicks to the frame.   Bio: Margo Hoff (1910–2008) was an American painter and printmaker known for her vibrant use of color and geometric abstraction. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she studied at the University of Oklahoma and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Hoff’s early work reflected social realism, but by the 1950s she shifted toward abstract compositions characterized by rhythmic forms, mosaic-like structures, and luminous color fields. Her work often explored themes of movement, architecture, and urban life. Hoff exhibited widely throughout the mid-20th century, becoming associated with the Chicago art scene before later moving to New York. She is recognized for her contributions to postwar American abstraction and modernist design.
