Gene Kloss ”Processional” Aquatint & Drypoint On Paper - Taos, 1948 Signed: Lower right Titled: Lower left Frame: 15 3/4” x 19 3/4”  Image: 9 7/8” x 13 3/4” Provenance: Canal Gallery, Ontario   Condition: Both the image and frame are in very good condition.   Bio: Gene Kloss (1903–1996) was an American printmaker and painter celebrated for her etchings depicting the landscapes and people of the American Southwest. Born Alice Geneva Glasier in Oakland, California, she studied at the University of California, Berkeley, and the California School of Fine Arts. Kloss began visiting Taos, New Mexico, in the 1920s, where she became deeply influenced by Pueblo culture and the region’s dramatic terrain. Working primarily in drypoint and etching, she developed a distinctive style marked by strong contrasts of light and shadow and finely detailed linework. A full member of the National Academy of Design, Kloss is regarded as one of the foremost American women printmakers of the 20th century and a key figure in Southwestern art.
