Frederick Schafer ”Hunters Camp” Oil On Canvas - Signed lower right, titled on reverse. Frame: 18 1/2” x 14 1/2” Image: 11 1/2” x 15 1/2”   Condition: Three small areas of repair on the verso of the painting and minor paint loss to the frame. Otherwise, both frame and image are in good condition.   Bio: Frederick Ferdinand Schafer (1839–1927) was a German-American landscape painter known for his detailed portrayals of the American West. Born in Braunschweig, Germany, Schafer immigrated to the United States around 1873 and settled in San Francisco, California. He traveled extensively throughout the Pacific Coast, the Sierra Nevada, and the Rocky Mountains, producing hundreds of oil paintings that document the grandeur of 19th-century western landscapes. Schafer’s work is characterized by its naturalistic light, meticulous composition, and emphasis on wilderness scenery, often depicting forests, rivers, and mountain vistas. His style reflects both European academic training and the romantic spirit of American frontier art.
