The metal components, likely brass or bronze with a gold-toned finish, are decorated with finely engraved foliate scrollwork along the scalloped rims and sides. Each lid features an inset pale blue jasperware ceramic plaque, executed in the manner of Wedgwood, depicting white bas-relief classical scenes including putti and mythological figures.
