Bidspirit auction | Soviet School, Set of Six

Soviet School, Set of Six Matryoshka Nesting Dolls, Painted Wood, circa 1960-1980 - Produced by an unidentified Soviet workshop, this set of six hand-painted nesting dolls (matryoshka) is crafted from turned wood. Each figure depicts a traditional peasant woman wearing a colourful kerchief and apron decorated with red and green floral motifs. The facial features and clothing outlines are defined through a combination of black paint and pyrography (wood-burning), with the largest doll featuring a distinctive spiral-patterned hair motif. No maker's marks or Cyrillic signatures are present; however, the largest figure retains an adhesive auction label numbered 6182. This set is a typical example of mid-to-late 20th-century Russian folk art production from the USSR. Dimensions: Height of largest doll 15 cm.
