Contemporary Russian School, Set of four nesting dolls (Matryoshka), Pyrography and polychrome decorated wood, Late 20th Century - A set of four graduated Russian nesting dolls, or matryoshka, crafted from hand-turned wood. The decoration utilises a combination of pyrography (wood-burning) and polychrome paint. Each figure is depicted with large, expressive eyes and a silver-toned headdress. The bodies are embellished with floral motifs scorched into the wood and further detailed with pink and white pigments. This aesthetic is indicative of folk art produced for the souvenir market during the late 20th century. There are no visible Cyrillic signatures or maker's marks. Dimensions: Largest doll measures approximately 16 cm in height.
