Bidspirit auction | Gustav Becker (Attributed), Vienna Regulator
Gustav Becker (Attributed), Vienna Regulator Wall Clock, Late 19th Century - An impressive Victorian-style Vienna Regulator wall clock, attributed to Gustav Becker or a contemporary German maker. The case is expertly crafted from heavily carved wood, likely walnut, featuring a grand architectural pediment crowned with a spread-wing eagle finial. The structure is further embellished with turned spindles, decorative finials, and carved mask motifs to the sides and base. The circular white enamel dial presents black Roman numeral hour markers and a rail-style minute track, with two winding arbors indicating a mechanical time and strike movement. The hands are of ornate, open-work black metal. Housed behind a large glass-fronted door is a long pendulum with a polished brass bob. The movement is likely spring-driven, striking on a gong at the hour and half-hour. Dimensions: Height approximately 152 centimetres.
