John Smith of Stirling, George III Oak and Mahogany Longcase Clock, circa 1820 - A George III period Scottish longcase clock, the dial signed John Smith, Stirling. The clock features an 8-day mechanical weight-driven movement with time and strike complications, striking on a bell. The case is constructed from oak with decorative mahogany cross-banding and inlays to the trunk door and base panel. The hood is designed with an arched glazed door flanked by simple pilasters. The painted arched dial displays a rural landscape scene in the arch, with a white face featuring black Roman numeral hour markers and an outer minute track. Complications include a subsidiary seconds dial below the 12 o'clock position and a date aperture above the 6 o'clock position. The corners are decorated with hand-painted floral and foliate spandrels.
