A Late 19th or Early 20th Century Six-Bar Chord Zither - A chorded zither, also known as an autoharp, featuring a manual chord-bar damping mechanism. The instrument is constructed with a wooden body finished in black lacquer with white pinstripe detailing. The soundboard is decorated with a central polychrome floral transfer depicting roses. It is fitted with six chord bars, with white labels identifying the chords as B minor, A minor, E seventh, G major, D major, and C major. The instrument features steel strings and tuning pins. A paper label is visible through the central soundhole, though the text remains illegible. This style of instrument is often associated with manufacturers such as Oscar Schmidt or Hopf, who produced similar models for the European and British markets during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods.
