Bidspirit auction | A Tudor Revival Carved Oak
A Tudor Revival Carved Oak Hall Settle - A dark-stained oak hall settle of Tudor Revival design, featuring a high panelled back and a box-style base. The backrest is divided into three sections, each containing a relief-carved panel depicting various figurative and tavern interior scenes. The top rail is ornamented with scrolling foliate carvings, while the armrests terminate in carved lion mask heads. The box base is decorated with two rectangular panels featuring mask and swag motifs. A hinged seat opens to reveal a large internal storage compartment constructed from plain timber planks. A small white circular adhesive label is present on the left-hand side of the backrest. The top-left carved panel contains incised characters that appear to read C, O, L, though these are integrated into the decorative scene and are not clearly legible as a maker's mark. No other maker's marks, stamps, or labels are visible on the piece.
