The scale is fitted with two distinct pans: a large, deep funnel-shaped scoop constructed from a weathered, silvery-toned metal and a smaller, shallower bowl in a gold-toned metal. The frame features raised, cast lettering on its horizontal members; the upper arm reads BIRMINGHAM and the lower arm reads CARNEGIE & LAYTON. A small white rectangular adhesive label is present on the central vertical support, but any text upon it is not legible.
