A Victorian Cast Iron and Ceramic Counter Balance Scale - An antique counter balance shop scale featuring a black-painted cast iron frame. The scale is fitted with a rectangular white ceramic platform decorated with a black transfer-printed design depicting the figure of Justice holding a sword and a set of scales, framed by a foliate border. A banner at the base of this illustration is printed with the words THE VICTORIA. Opposite the ceramic plate is a secondary octagonal metal platform intended for weights. A small rectangular white paper label with the handwritten number 12851 is affixed to the surface of the ceramic plate. The iron frame consists of heavy cast components with a central balance mechanism.
