A Pair of Victorian Style Silver Plated Entree Dishes and Covers by John Batt - A pair of Victorian style silver plated entree dishes and covers by John Batt of Sheffield, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. Each dish is of shaped oval and lobed form, featuring wide borders decorated with cast and chased shells, C-scrolls, and foliate motifs. The matching domed covers are embossed with scrolled borders and are surmounted by substantial, removable cast handles decorated with acanthus leaves and scrolls. These items are silver plated and bear manufacturer marks on the rims rather than standard British sterling silver hallmarks. The marks consist of the initials J.B in a rectangular punch, an oval punch containing a helmeted head, and a small cross symbol.
