Bidspirit auction | Two Disparate Antique Mahogany Side

Two Disparate Antique Mahogany Side Chairs - A lot comprising two distinct mahogany side chairs. The first is a George III style chair in the Chippendale manner, featuring a shaped top rail with shell-carved motifs at the ears and a finely pierced splat with interlaced scrollwork and a heart-shaped cutout. It is supported by square-section legs joined by stretchers. The second is a mid-Victorian balloon-back chair featuring a waisted frame and an elaborately scrolled cresting rail. The central splat includes a recessed shield-shaped cartouche, and the chair stands on turned and tapered front legs with sabre rear legs. Both chairs are currently dressed with loose tapestry-weave covers depicting elephants and figures in an Eastern style. Beneath these covers, the George III style chair has brown velvet-effect upholstery, while the Victorian chair features a red and black chequered fabric secured with brass nailhead trim.
