An Edwardian Oak Cutlery Canteen Box for Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company Ltd Dated 1908 - An Edwardian oak cutlery canteen box produced for the Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company Ltd of 112 Regent Street, London. The rectangular chest is constructed from solid oak with a light finish and features traditional joinery. The lid is inset with a rectangular brass presentation plate engraved with the initials A. B. J. and the date 1908. The interior is fitted with tiered compartments lined in vibrant royal blue velvet, designed to accommodate a full multi-course service. The inner rim of the lid contains two inlaid white labels identifying the manufacturer and their London address. Further small inlaid labels are present within the velvet-lined sections to identify specific cutlery positions, including 12 Table Knives, 12 Cheese Knives, 6 Dessert Spoons, 4 Salt Spoons, and 6 Egg Spoons. The canteen retains an assortment of remaining cutlery, comprising a selection of knives and a single carving fork, each featuring bone or ivorine handles with decorative silver-toned bolsters. Two blue and yellow striped fabric ribbon pulls are fitted to the interior to lift the internal trays. The box is equipped with brass butt hinges and a central lock plate.
