Robert and George William Dodd, A Pair of Architectural Engravings for London Bridge Designs, 1803 - A pair of antique copperplate engravings with etching, depicting proposed architectural designs for bridges over the River Thames in London. These plates originate from the Report (1800) from the Select Committee upon the Improvement of the Port of London. The first print, designated Plate 31, presents a design by Robert Dodd for a bridge with a large central iron arch of 300 feet span intended to replace the foundations of the existing London Bridge. It includes views of shipping, the London skyline, and detailed plan views of the piers. The second print, Plate III, shows a design for a stone bridge by George William Dodd, featuring integrated embankments and fire-proof warehouses. Both works are executed with fine linear engraving for the structures and tonal etching for the atmospheric clouds and water. Each impression is clear and retains visible plate marks. The top headers read: REPORT (1800) FROM THE SELECT COMMITTEE UPON THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE PORT OF LONDON. The lower margins bear the printed inscription: Ordered, by the House of Commons, to be Printed, 28th July 1800; And to be Re-printed 1803. They are presented in matching modern black frames with beaded inner borders and wood-effect matting.
