Kirk & Son sterling silver shoehorn in repousse pattern, with ornate floral and natural motifs adorning the handle, from the early 20th century. It measures approx 6 1/2'' in length by 1 2/3'' in width by 2/3'' in height, weighs 2.8 troy ounces, and bears hallmarks as shown.Baltimore’s prominent silver manufacturing company, Samuel Kirk & Son, dates its beginning to 1815. Just 5 years later, Maria Hester Monroe, daughter of President James Monroe, was married in the White House. She chose Kirk Mayflower as her silverware pattern. During this early period Kirk introduced to America the repousse treatment for silverware. Their works are present in the permanent collections of prestigious museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the Cooper Hewitt, and the Cleveland Museum of Art.
