Exceptionally Rare Japanese Naval Cutlass Sword -M1860 Ames - Exceptionally Rare Japanese Naval Cutlass Sword -M1860 Ames -Purchased from U.S. Government-- Exceedingly rare antique Japanese naval cutlass. This Japanese cutlass was sourced from the United States during Japan adoption of Western military tactics during the Meiji Restoration after the Samurai class was outlawed. This sword is dated 1897 in Japanese kanji on the guard. This Civil War model 1860 naval cutlass was made by Ames Mfg. The blade measures 26”” long. The blade is 5/16”” thick, and 1 3/16”” wide at the ricasso. The pommel is phyrigian style. There is no scabbard with this sword.
