Anton Schutz Original Antique American Etching Metropolis - Antique American etching ”Metropolis” and depicting a view of the New York City skyline from across the harbor, possibly from Governors Island by Anton Schutz (1894-1977, American). Signed. Framed. Size: 24” x 20 1/8” Framed; 14 1/4” x 10 3/8” Unframed. Anton Schutz was a German-American artist, born in Berndorf, Germany in 1894. He is best known for his cityscapes and architectural etchings. A well-known artist in his day, Shutz produced dozens of etchings for the Encyclopedia Britannica and other publications, such as the New York Times and Times Magazine. He also founded the New York Graphic Society in 1925. Many of Shutzs plates were destroyed during World War II when he donated the metal for the war effort.
