19th C. Japanese Hinawaju Matchlock Pistol (Tanegashima - Type), Gilt Decoration to Barrel, Brass-Mounted Lock - Compact Japanese hinawaju (matchlock) pistol in classic Tanegashima form, with a straight-sided hardwood stock and faceted iron barrel. The pistol retains a traditional serpentine match holder and matchlock mechanism with brass-mounted fittings, including breech band and lock components. The iron barrel is decorated with gilt designs, including a prominent floral mon (stylized blossom) and flowing scrollwork panels, giving the piece strong visual appeal beyond its utilitarian form. The stock shows a brass flower-shaped inlay on the side and a lanyard hole at the butt, while a slender wooden rod/implement is visible along the fore-end (possibly a ramrod or accessory rod, as fitted/present).
